Central Mountain Wildcats narrowly edged out by Shikellamy 51-50

MILL HALL – The Central Mountain Girls Basketball team geared up for a home game battle against Shikellamy on a cold Saturday night in Central PA. The Lady Wildcats, after a strong start, were looking to bounce back and pick up more wins. The Wildcats were 6-6 on the season. In their previous encounter earlier this month, the Wildcats lost to Shikellamy by a narrow margin of 36-34. Shikellamy came into the night with a 10-5 record on the season. It was a back-and-forth battle, but ultimately, Shikellamy secured the win with a final score of 51-50.

After the first quarter of play, Shikellamy held an 11-7 lead over the Wildcats. They continued to extend their lead by six points at the end of the first half, leading 26-21. Central Mountain wouldn’t give up and fought hard to take the lead after three quarters of play, leading 33-32. The game came down to the wire, with each team answering the other. With a few seconds left, Central Mountain tied the game, but then a foul was called. With five team fouls, Shikellamy went to the line and secured one point to take the 51-50 win.

Taylor Doyle led with 17 points, followed by Camdyn Weaver with 12, Lena Walker, who had a hot hand from downtown with three 3-pointers, scored 9, and Ava Doyle contributed 7. Lily Fatool led for the Lady Braves with 23 points.

Coach Scott Baker, after the game, said, “Despite being on the losing end of the contest, CM showed some growth that could play big dividends the rest of the season.”

The Lady Wildcat JV team also fell to Shikellamy.
