LHU Women’s Basketball caps off PSAC crossover play 6-0, wins 11th straight
CLARION – In its first game of 2024, the Lock Haven women’s basketball team continues to roll, winning its 11th straight game on the road at Clarion, 75-50, on Wednesday night (Jan. 3) to finish Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference a perfect 6-0.
With the victory, The Haven improves to 11-1 overall and 6-0 in the PSAC. Lock Haven is the only unbeaten team in the Eastern Division and just one of three schools unbeaten in crossover play in either division.
Starting with the 2016-17 season, each PSAC East team has started conference play with six PSAC East vs. West games, and Lock Haven is believed to be the first Eastern Division team to go a perfect 6-0 since the mandated schedule change.
It has been nearly four decades since the Bald Eagles have won 11 or more games in a row, and Lock Haven hasn’t lost since its season opener.
The Bald Eagles continue to be road warriors as they improve to 5-0 away from Thomas Fieldhouse.
With the loss, Clarion falls to 0-12 overall and 0-6 in the PSAC.
Jenadia Jordan (York, Pa./Linden Hall) also reached 20 points on the dot, as she did most of her damage from behind the arch, knocking down four trifectas.
Rhlyn Rouse (York, Pa./York Tech)
Alana Robinson (Rockaway, N.J./Pope John Paul II) continues her tear to start the season and lead all scorers with 24 points on 10-of-14 shooting. The conference block leader added two blocks.
Madeline Evans (Bloomsburg, Pa./Bloomsburg) rounded out the Bald Eagles in double figures, adding an impressive 12-point, 14-rebound double-double.
Olivia Smith (Alexandria, Pa./Juniata Valley) dished out a game-high seven assists.
After a slow offensive start in their last victory, the Bald Eagles bounced back with a dominant start on both ends of the floor in the first quarter to lead 14-6.
The Haven continued to roll in the second with a 20-15 advantage to head into the break leading 34-21.
Clarion had its best period by scoring 22 points in the third, but couldn’t get any closer as Lock Haven matched the outburst with 22 points of their own before closing out the victory in the fourth.
Lock Haven continues to use its defense to lead to offense and held Clarion to 35 percent (19-of-54) shooting, while forcing 18 turnovers. The Haven shot nearly 50 percent on the night, knocking down 27-of-55 attempts.
