Persun’s 27 lifts Wildcats past Shikellamy 72-45

By Bees O’Brien

MILL HALL- When Xavier Persun is on target, defeating Central Mountain has become nearly impossible. That was the case for visiting Shikellamy on Wednesday evening.

Persun would scorch the Braves for 27 points, which included seven made three-point baskets. This would lead to a convincing 72-45 Heartland Conference victory for the Wildcats. With playoff season quickly approaching a huge 5A win for the Wildcats only sweetened the pot.

CM was cruising in the first quarter with a big 21-6 lead, but the Braves would battle back. Shik would outscore Central Mountain 17-15 in the second quarter, but the damage was already done.

The Wildcats would turn it up a notch in the third quarter by running away from the Braves 22-11. Central Mountain closed out the game with a 14-11 fourth quarter.

Hunter Hoy netted 11 points to compliment Persun’s big night and Caleb Mahoney would add 8 points.

Shikellamy fell to 4-5 on the season.

Now 7-2, Central Mountain will next be in action on Friday when they host Milton (2-5).
