Fleming’s 40 lifts Curwensville past Bucktail, 68-56

CURWENSVILLE- For the second straight night, the Bucktail boys basketball team found themselves squaring off against a quality team out of District 9. A road trip to 2A Curwensville was on tap on Friday night and the host Golden Tide had a weapon in Davis Fleming.
Fleming would scorch the Bucks for 40 points, as Curwensville would take advantage of a poor shooting Bucktail squad and down the visitors 68-56.
Curwensville would jump out to a 16-10 advantage. Fleming scored 11 points in the frame and his 7 point second quarter combined with an 11-8 second quarter would have the Golden Tide up 27-18.
Fleming would catch fire again in the third quarter by scoring 13 points and leading Curwensville on a huge 25-11 third quarter run.
Bucktail would fight back in the fourth, but the margin was too much to overcome. A 27-15 Bucktail advantage brought things close but the host squad’s lead and Fleming’s scoring were too overwhelming for Bucktail.
Brody Pentz led the Bucks with another double-double by scoring 14 points and grabbing 16 rebounds. Brett Mason added 11 points, Johnny Green chipped in 10 points and freshman Gavin Pick would score a career high 10 points.
Curwensville improves to 5-4, while Bucktail drops to 2-3 on the season.
The Bucks will next be in action on December 27 when they travel to the Columbia Montour Vo-Tech Tournament, where they will meet Weatherly (0-6) in the semifinals. The other semifinal will feature District 4 1A leader Meadowbrook Christian as they are set to take on the hosts CMVT.
