Renovo Area Community Choir presents: “Winter’s Song”

RENOVO, PA – On Sunday December 3, 2:00 p.m. at the 7th Street United Methodist Church in Renovo, the Renovo Area Community Choir, directed by Patty Lacy and accompanied by Brandon Kahley, will open the holiday season with their Christmas Concert ~ “Winter’s Song”.

“Winter’s Song” begins the concert by painting a picture of winter through song ~

“Let the joy of music now begin”. “Happy Winter” continues the joy of music, joining this partner song with “Frosty the Snowman”. “Thumpity, thump, thump, Frosty’s on his way”! “In the silence of winter, the snowflakes fall” opens the haunting song, “The Magic of Winter”, followed by a change of pace with “A Family Christmas Spectacular” incorporating seasonal favorites; “Over the River”, “Up on the House-Top”, “Jolly Old Saint Nicholas”, “Winter” and “Jingle Bells”. A great swing number “Marshmallow World” reminds us of the fun “when the snow comes to cover the ground”. Closing out the first half “Winter Wonderland of Snow” combines two winter favorites; “Winter Wonderland of Snow” and “Let It Snow”.

During intermission Kahner Stewart, a 5th grade student at Renovo Elementary will be singing two selections from the ‘Rudolph’ animated cartoon special – “Rudolph, the Red Nosed Reindeer” and “A Holly Jolly Christmas”. The audience will also be entertained by Autumn and Mitch Gavlock singing two numbers; “Hard Candy Christmas” by Dolly Parton and “Savior’s Shadow” (Christmas version) by Blake Shelton.

As autumn fades to gray, signs are clear that winter is here. The second half of the concert opens with another song appropriately titled “Winter Song”. The audience is welcome to join in the invitation to “Come and Sing”, the story of the birth of Christ through a joyous spiritual with a solo by Erica Dorman. Everyone will recognize the traditional “Hark! the Herald Angels Sing”, enhanced with a counter melody “Behold a Star in the Sky”. “Sing Joy: A Medley of Carols” is exactly that ~ including “Joy to the World”, “It Came Upon a Midnight Clear”, and “O Come, All Ye Faithful”. The ever tender and moving “In the Bleak Midwinter” asks the poignant question “What can I give him?” sung by Courtney Billings. Closing out the afternoon with “Merry Christmas to All”, the choir will send us on our way with a medley of popular carols; “Deck the Hall”, “Good King Wenceslas”, “Infant Holy”, “God Rest You Merry Gentlemen”, “What Child is This”, “Here We Come a-Caroling”, “The Holly and the Ivy”, and “We Wish You and Merry Christmas”.

A big thank you to Renovo Area Women’s Club. They will once again be offering refreshments after the concert.
We hope you will join us for an afternoon filled with joyful songs of the winter season.
