Flemington bridge reopens both lanes in time for Thanksgiving
by Christopher Miller
FLEMINGTON, PA – PennDOT announced Wednesday afternoon that both lanes of the Flemington Bridge have officially reopened to normal vehicle traffic.
The fully reopened lanes come as an early Thanksgiving treat for motorists traveling for the holiday on Thursday.
“In the grand scheme of life, it was a slight irritation,” said fellow motorist and Avenue Coffee Facilities Manager Sarah Grimes.
The bridge work, which officially started in June, improves the overall condition rating of the bridge from “fair” to “good.”
Being the most direct way between Lock Haven/Flemington to Mill Hall and beyond, the bridge normally handles thousands of cars traveling between the boroughs each day.
While the lanes will be reopened, pedestrian sidewalks will not be accessible until mid-December. Drivers should anticipate the possibility of intermittent flagging while the contractor, HRI, Inc. of State College, completes the work.
The $3.5 million job is the last of three projects that saw work under this contract.
