HUGHESVILLE, PA –- Emma Mitchell, a 19-year-old horror movie enthusiast from the Hughesville area, is making waves in the Face of Horror contest. This nationwide competition will award one horror filmmaker with a $13,000 cash prize and an exclusive photoshoot with horror icon Kane Hodder, to be featured in Rue Morgue Magazine. The winner also gets the opportunity to appear in a major horror film production.
Beyond the personal accolades, Emma is competing in support of the Andrew McDonough B+ Foundation, an organization that provides crucial support to families of children with cancer and funds cutting-edge childhood cancer research.
Emma, who is otherwise known as “Creepy Girl,” is a horror movie enthusiast and Hughesville High School graduate. She spends most of her time with family in Renovo and currently works as a caregiver for two individuals in hospice. Alongside her passion for horror films, Emma has a strong desire to be involved in horror movie production in the future. As a creative individual, she channels her artistic abilities in her free time by either drawing or creating horror films, as she has a natural inclination towards the arts.
The Face of Horror competition donates a minimum of 25% of the net proceeds generated from votes to the B+ Foundation. This partnership aims to bring attention to the fight against childhood cancer and spread positivity. Donations are not required in order to vote, however, when a voter makes a donation, Emma receives bonus points to help her progress further in the competition in addition to contributing to the B+ Foundation.
Votes can be cast through Emma’s Face of Horror website, where individuals can also make donations if they choose to. Voting for Emma to secure her spot in the semi-finals ends this Thursday, Oct. 26, at 11 p.m.
Emma’s horror film submission, titled “Creepy Girl,” was filmed at the historic Maxwell Video building in Renovo. With access provided by local community member Mary George, who is involved with The Greater Renovo Area Heritage Park, Emma was able to bring her creative vision to life in this unique location. The Maxwell Video building, formerly a morgue and later a furniture store, added an eerie atmosphere to her film.
The cheerleaders and football team of Bucktail High School along with several community members in Renovo joined forces to support Emma in her endeavor to create her horror film for the Face of Horror contest. Many of them volunteered to be a cast member and are featured in the film she submitted.
The Face of Horror contest began in September with 150,000 contestants. After several rounds of elimination, there are now only 168 contestants remaining, including Emma. At 11 p.m. this Thursday there will be another contestant elimination. After that point, there will be only five competitors left in the semi-finals. The semi-finals will last until November 3rd, giving Emma a chance to garner more votes for herself and her horror film, and a winner will be chosen on November 19.
If Emma emerges victorious in the competition, she will receive a $13,000 cash prize and a trip to Hollywood for a photo shoot at the Woodbury House, an iconic filming location known for appearances in American Horror Story, True Blood, and more. This spine-chilling photoshoot will be led by none other than horror icon Kane Hodder, renowned for his portrayal of Jason Voorhees in the Friday the 13th franchise. The photos from the shoot will be featured in the esteemed Rue Morgue Magazine, a must-read for horror fans.
In addition to the photo shoot, the winner of the Face of Horror contest will have the opportunity to appear in a horror movie. If Emma’s film titled, “Creepy Girl,” is chosen, it will be featured as a scene in a horror movie, further showcasing her passion for horror movie production.
As Emma competes for the Face of Horror title, she supports the Andrew McDonough B+ Foundation. This organization, established in 2008, provides financial and emotional support to families of children with cancer and funds critical childhood cancer research. With a 95/100 Charity Navigator score, the B+ Foundation has proven its dedication to making a meaningful impact.
