Central Mountain volleyball slammed by Altoona
By Tom Elling
BALD EAGLE TOWNSHIP, PA – The Monday meeting between two District Six Quad A volleyball teams was huge in that the winner would most likely secure the #2 seed in the upcoming playoffs. Central Mountain had the edge going in, but Altoona was a little bit quicker and more fluid taking the homestanding team in three straight sets (25-17, 25-19 and 25-13).
“We didn’t have the spark tonight,” a disappointed Coach Chipp McCann mused. “We were down a player, but we can play a lot better than we did tonight.”
They will have just one short day before hosting Bellefonte on ‘Senior Night’ this Wednesday to get it all together. Central Mountain could pick up 7 points for a win. Altoona plays Central Dauphin. They defeated
CD earlier in the season and a win would give the Lady Mountain Lions 8 points. The rankings of #2 and #3 will make a difference in the home court. It is assured that CM and Altoona will meet the first round (a
semi-final game) on October 31. The winner would play the next day for the AAAA title in the Tyrone gym. The probable opponent is Mifflin County (11-4).
Central Mountain, having lost five straight, will have to rally to be ready for Bellefonte in hopes of regaining some momentum into playoffs.
The Lady ‘Cats were without setter Sophia Hardy for the second straight game, causing Coach McCann to adjust some positions. She is expected back for playoffs.
