Clinton County Sheriff announces sale of unclaimed firearms


LOCK HAVEN, PA – Clinton County Sheriff Kerry Stover has announced plans to sell over 60 unclaimed firearms his department has accumulated over more than 40 years. The weapons range from shotguns to rifles to handguns. In making his announcement on Wednesday, Sheriff Stover said there is also a reclaiming mechanism for those who believe they are the rightful owner of one of the firearms now in the county’s possession.

I, Clinton County Sheriff Kerry Stover, will hold a sale of all unclaimed firearms that have accumulated in the Sheriff’s Office over the last 40 some years.

I wish to get the firearms back to their rightful owners if possible, so please read the following carefully.

HOW TO VIEW THE FIREARMS ONLINE:

Go to the Clinton County Government webpage, www.clintoncountypa.gov

Once you are on the county webpage, go to the “GOVERNMENT” Tab. On the GOVERNMENT TAB find and click on the “SHERIFF” link. This will take you to the Sheriff’s Portion of the county website. There you will find a highlighted link, “FIREARMS OWNERSHIP REVIEW”

HOW TO VIEW THE FIREARMS IN PERSON:

After viewing the firearms, if you feel you have a rightful claim to one or more of these firearms or you do not have access to a computer, you can set up a time to view those particular firearms in our office prior to Oct 31, 2023 (some date/time restrictions may apply due to other duties)

HOW TO REQUEST A HEARING:

If you further believe you have a rightful claim to any firearm(s), you can request a hearing in the Clinton County Court of Common Pleas to request the firearm(s) be returned to you.

To file your request for a firearm(s) to be returned, you must fill out a form that you can get at the Clinton County Sheriff’s Office any time prior to the deadline, which is Nov. 1, 2023, at 12:30pm.

Hearings will be scheduled on for Nov. 20th at 3:00pm in Courtroom #1 of the Clinton County Courthouse, 230 E. Water St. Lock Haven, Pennsylvania.

Prior to the Clinton County Sheriff’s Office returning any firearm(s), you must pass the background check, which will be conducted by the PA Instant Check System or PICS.

HOW TO BID/PURCHASE FIREARMS:

Secure a Federal Firearms Licensed Dealer of your choice.

At anytime prior to the sale, submit to your dealer, one sealed envelope per firearm with Your Name, and the Firearms Picture number associated with that firearm on the front of the envelope. Inside this envelope, write down your bid on That Firearm Only. Repeat this as many times as you wish for other firearms but one bid per envelope.

Have your dealer submit your sealed envelope(s) to us prior to the deadline, which is close of business or 5:00pm on Dec. 8, 2023

Bidders and Dealers who submitted bids can attend the bid opening session that will take place at the courthouse on Dec. 11, 2023 at 3:00pm.

NOTE: All Firearms will be sold in As-Is Condition, no guarantees as to their safety or functionality.

NOTE: There will be additional fees for the dealer’s services and the background check they must conduct on the successful bidders, so please bid accordingly.

 

HOW TO PAY FOR THE FIREARMS:

Successful bidders must pay for their firearm(s) in person with cash or check at the Clinton County Sheriff’s Office no later than Thursday, Dec 14, at 5:00pm.

If a successful bidder needs additional time to pay please contact our office prior to Dec 14.

 

WHERE TO PICK UP FIREARMS:

Firearms will be delivered to the dealer who submitted your bid by the Sheriff’s Deputies no later than 5:00pm on Friday Dec. 15. You can pick up your firearm(s) from your dealer during their normal business hours after this time.
