Bucktail tennis sweeps Neumann, big matches with South this week

WILLIAMSPORT, PA- The Bucktail tennis team picked up two key victories on Monday in a doubleheader match at St. John Neumann. The Lady Bucks used strong play to sweep the Lady Golden Knights 5-0 and 4-1.

Coming fresh off of their 5-0 Senior Night win over Muncy, Bucktail very much needed to handle Neumann with ease to keep their Mid Penn Conference hopes alive.

Bucktail swept through match number one with ease. Alexis Lowery and Gigi Balchun won singles matches and the doubles team went a perfect 2-0.

Mak Wagner and Kendall Wagner won easily 6-2, 6-0. It was the first time that the two sisters had a chance to team up. Giada DeMarte and Kedda Bissman continued their winning ways in the second Bucktail doubles contest, winning 6-0, 6-1.

Bucktail also received a forfeit in the number 3 singles match.

Match number 2 saw more Lady Buck wins. Lowery and Mak Wagner each won their singles contests with ease in a Super Set to 10 style contest. Lowery would win 10-2, while Wagner picked up the 10-0 win.

Following another Bucktail forfeit at number 3, Balchun and Eva Sockman would gain another Lady Bucks victory 10-2.

The dominant play from Bucktail allowed the Lady Bucks to use a new doubles combination of Willow Kitchen and Riley Salizzoni. Despite gaining valuable experience the Bucktail duo would fall 10-2.

Bucktail, now 14-0 and currently perfect in MPC play will hit the courts Wednesday in Farwell to take on South Williamsport (13-1). They will then hit the road on Thursday and face those same Lady Mounties at South Williamsport.

If Bucktail sweeps both matches, they would then repeat as outright conference champions. A loss and a win would give Bucktail a co-championship. Two losses would give South the outright conference title.
