LH Tennis opens season with convincing win over Lycoming
LOCK HAVEN, PA – The Lock Haven women’s tennis team (1-0) welcomed the Lycoming Warriors (0-2) for The Haven’s season-opener in a non-conference matchup Friday afternoon and came away with a victory of 7-2.
At No.1 doubles Mia Shuler (Williamsport, Pa./Williamsport) and Christy McLean (Jim Thorpe, Pa./Jim Thorpe) battled their way to an 8-5 win. Olivia Anastos (Lock Haven, Pa./Central Mountain) and Olivia Sharp (York, Pa./York County School of Technology) teamed up for an 8-4 win at No. 2 doubles. With a score of 8-1, Claire Long (Lock Haven, Pa./Central Mountain) and Alaina Marchioni (Montoursville, Pa./Montoursville) had a dominant win to secure the doubles sweep for the Bald Eagles.
The Bald Eagles dominance continued to the singles matches where they won four out of six matchups with three of them going to super breakers.
Shuler got the win over Hannah Seebold at No. 1 with a score of 6-3 & 6-1. At No. 2 Anastos held on over Emily Wolfgang with a match that had a score of 6-0 & 5-7 with a super breaker of 10-5 giving Anastos the victory.
Sharp battled their way to a singles victory over Greta Kimble 7-6 & 6-4 at No. 5. While at No. 6, Natalie Brown (Lock Haven, Pa./Central Mountain) swept Cassie Conner 6-0 & 6-0 giving the Bald Eagles an overall win of 7-2.
