Riverview Park walkway project: traffic control modification now in use
LOCKPORT, PA – PennDOT has put in place a turning modification for the temporary traffic signals at the north end of Veterans Bridge connecting Lock Haven and Woodward Township. The state highway agency late last week announced that because of anticipated heavy traffic on the Veterans Bridge over the Labor Day weekend that traffic will be allowed to turn right on red from the bridge on the Lockport side. But the “no turn on red” sign was removed on Saturday.
Meanwhile the walkway project continues. Work this year has included building a temporary causeway on the Susquehanna riverbank to serve as a work platform to build the 800-foot retaining wall. The contractor has placed navigational aids in the river to denote a safe distance from construction activities to boaters.
Overall work on the project includes roadway realignment, utility relocations, drainage improvements, piping and inlets, construction of a retaining wall, sidewalks, curbing, ornamental light poles, guide rail, paving, pavement markings, and miscellaneous items. Clearwater Construction, Inc. of Mercer, PA, is the contractor on the $7.5 million job, which will carry into 2024.
