By John Lipez

BALD EAGLE TOWNSHIP, PA – The Central Mountain girls’ tennis team has a new coach, several returning starters and a rising star on the state youth tennis scene, that’s the storyline for the Lady Wildcats for 2023.

The new coach is Tom Zettle who had been an assistant under previous head coach Pete Wert for many years Wert is now the head coach at Lock Haven University and Zettle had helped him there in the spring but welcomes the return to the high school ranks, stating, “I am better suited to the high school game. I bleed blue and White. “

The team has three starters back from last year: Teresa Temple No.3 Singles, Ellie Harry No.2 Doubles, and Catie Lugg No.2 Doubles; in all there are six returnees from a year ago.

Then there is freshman Addison Lindsay, described by the coach as “quite talented.” Her brother is David Lindsay, the PIAA champ two years ago and runner up this past year. Addison is reported highly ranked in her age group in the USTA Pennsylvania rankings. Coach Zettle said, “It will be exciting to see her this year.”

As for the competition in the Heartland Conference, Jersey Shore, Williamsport and Selinsgrove are expected to be strong.

The Lady Wildcats are again playing their home matches at the Gibson Tennis Complex and coach Zettle said, “I’d love to see more people attend our home matches. A great way to spend a couple hours, come see some great tennis. I don’t think they would be disappointed.”

The Lady Wildcats are to host Shikellamy on Thursday of this week and Jersey Shore next Wednesday, Aug. 30.
