Marsh Creek Road bridge work set for Friday, Aug. 4
ROMOLA, PA – PennDOT has announced that the contractor plans to place the beams for a bridge replacement project along Route 1002, the Marsh Creek Road, on Friday, Aug. 4.
The state highway agency says replacing the bridge, which spans Marsh Creek about a mile northeast of the village of Romola, will allow PennDOT to remove a weight limit posting of 26 tons for single vehicles and improve the structure’s overall condition rating from “poor” to “good.”
The contractor will mobilize a 600-ton crane to the work site at the Marsh Creek and Schencks Grove roads intersection. PennDOT anticipates this mobilization will cause significant delays for drivers traveling Marsh Creek Road and potentially for those traveling Route 150. PennDOT this week placed message boards alerting drivers of the delays and encouraging them to seek alternate routes or to build extra time into their travel schedules yesterday.
Once the crane is on-site, crews will begin setting the beams. Right turns onto Marsh Creek Road from Schencks Grove Road are prohibited while the contractor completes this work. Left turns onto Schencks Grove Road from March Creek Road are also prohibited during this time.
The detour using Route 1001 (Howard Divide Road) and Route 150 that PennDOT implemented on June 2, remains in effect. PennDOT anticipates lifting that detour in late August. Once PennDOT lifts the detour, the contractor will complete the remaining work on the project under flagging conditions.
Overall work on the project includes the removal of the existing bridge, building its replacement, approach paving, guide rail installation, drainage improvements, pavement markings, and miscellaneous items. Nestlerode Contracting Co. of Lock Haven is the contractor on the $2.6 million project. PennDOT anticipates completion in mid-September, but all work is weather dependent.
