Ironman 70.3 Pennsylvania Happy Valley event is in the books
UNIVERSITY PARK, PA – By all accounts the first Ironman 70.3 Pennsylvania Happy Valley event was successfully conducted on Sunday, a swim, bike race and run extending from Blanchard to Mill Hall to Centre Hall to University Park.
The final leg, a 13-mile run, ended on the 50-yardline at Beaver Stadium. First across was a Penn State grad (Class of 2019), Matt Guenter of Boulder, Colorado; his time 4:19.30. First female finisher was Caroline Moyer from Malvern, her time 5:00.55.
Clinton County Tourism Director Julie Brennan had been a key player in planning the Clinton County leg of the grueling event and she had only good things to post: “Very proud to have Clinton County be part of the inaugural Ironman 70.3 Pennsylvania Happy Valley event today! A portion of the 56-mile bike course came through our area, following a 1.2-mile swim at neighboring Bald Eagle State Park and preceding a 13-mile run on the Penn State Campus. Thanks to the many volunteers, police, fire ambulance and emergency services personnel who also supported the event! We loved cheering on the more than 2,000 race participants, who were grateful for the support.”
Brennan also said thanks, too, to The Ironman Group and the Happy Valley Adventure Bureau for bringing the event to Centre and Clinton counties and said, “Can’t wait for next year!”
