Wildcats Clobber Wildcats 52-15
BALD EAGLE TOWNSHIP – Once again flexing its bonus point power, the Central Mountain wrestling team shoved aside a Mifflinburg challenge Thursday night, the final score 52-15 for the now 5-0 Wildcats.
Central Mountain took 10 of the 14 bouts and scored bonus points in all 10 wins, six falls (five in the first period) and four major decisions.
For a while it looked like Central Mountain would need every point it could get. After jumping to a 10-0 lead on a major from Colton Weaver (11-5) and a first period pin from Emery Watson (10-4), the Wildcats saw Mifflinburg go on a 4-bout win streak, culminating in Mifflinburg ace Cole Walter (17-1) pinning Central Mountain’s Demetri Probst (12-4). At that point the visitors led 16-15.
But order was quickly restored, starting with a first period pin from Hunter Weaver (11-4), followed by the same thing from Loc Long (11-4).
The rout continued as Bryce Bitner won his second bout in two starts, a 9-1 major. Heavyweight Bryce Hanley (14-3) followed with a fall in turning the lineup over. Geo Barzona added a 13-3 major at 106 pounds; Seth Andrus (12-4) turned in the night’s fastest pin, just 35 seconds and Chris Confer (3-5) had a first period pin. Keanan Bottorf (12-4) finished the night with a 14-2 major, the final 52-15.
The win was the 299th for Wildcat coach Doug Buckwalter. He will go for number 300 Saturday at 2 p.m. as Central Mountain hosts Bald Eagle Area at the Bucktail High School gym. The match has been moved there to recognize the contributions of Probst who participates as a Wildcat while a senior at Bucktail High School. A large crowd is expected.
