Bald Eagle Township barn destroyed in Monday afternoon fire
BALD EAGLE TOWNSHIP, PA – It took multiple Mill Hall area fire companies some two and a half hours of service to knock down and put out a massive Monday afternoon barn fire at the end of Ferree Lane off the Lusk Run Road. The fire was first reported around 4 p.m. and men were packed up and leaving the scene by 7 p.m.
Mill Hall Fire Chief Tony Walker said he would return to the site at the Jeff Ferree property on Tuesday to try and determine a cause. Firemen were pressed to get water to the site. A relay of tanker trucks was set up at the Bald Eagle Creek boat launch area off Route 150 to shuttle water to the fire.
Walker said the two-story frame barn was destroyed, as was a nearby trailer; firemen had to pry off the barn’s metal roof to get to the flames. There was also a minor fire spread to nearby brush which firemen addressed. The barn flames sent billows of black smoke into the skies. The fire site is near Central Mountain High School but the school was closed Monday as part of the Easter break.
