A Season to Remember for Von Walker
MILL HALL – Recently therecord-online.com had the opportunity to sit down with Von Walker to discuss his sophomore season with the Penn State Nittany Lion Football program.
Walker, has made an impact at the Division I level due to his efforts as a three-sport star for Central Mountain. His impact as a Wildcat helped his teams to participate in district playoff games in all three sports as well as earning all-state recognition in both baseball and football.
Though, Walker is a diverse and capable athlete, it was his efforts on the gridiron that caught the attention of college scouts. It was the opportunity to be a “Run-on” for the Blue and White at Penn State that won out in the end. A chance to fulfill a boyhood dream growing up in the shadow of Beaver Stadium.
Walker was initially recruited as a running back working with the offense at PSU. Due to a shortage of personnel his freshman season, Walker was asked to move to the other side of the ball to help shore-up the secondary to add some depth at defensive back.
As time went on, Walker was asked to move into the linebacking corps for the Nittany Lions where he remains. All the while Von has been a key participant on special teams for Penn State taking full advantage of every opportunity that comes his way.
Walker was honored his freshman season with the “Hammer” award for his hard-hitting efforts then this season he was recognized as the top “Run-on” for the Blue and White.
The 2014 season was bookmarked by extraordinary events. Penn State opened their season on foreign soil, taking on Central Florida in Dublin, Ireland earning a narrow 26-24 victory. Then closing the season at Yankee Stadium winning the Pinstripe Bowl over Boston College 31-30 in overtime.
