Bulldogs complete perfect regular season, down Wildcats 71-6
BALD EAGLE TOWNSHIP, PA – The Jersey Shore football team put an explanation point on its perfect 2022 regular season Friday night with a dominating 71-6 win over rival Central Mountain. The Bulldogs scored early and often and in a variety of ways in opening a 51-6 halftime lead and coasting home.
‘Shore finished its regular season with a 10-0 mark, averaging some 57 points a game. The Bulldogs now prep for the postseason. Next up is a District 4 Class 4A semifinal next weekend against an opponent to be announced. For Central Mountain the verdict left the youthful Wildcats with an 0-10 mark, their season over. They battled to the end against a legitimate state Class 4A power.
Central Mountain had trouble staying with ‘Shore’s fast paced, no huddle offense. Coach Tom Gravish’s team scored on every first half possession but one and in virtually every manner.
The Wildcats did do something no other team had done against the Bulldogs this season, score against their first team defense. With Thomas Sprague running the offense in the place of injured two-way starter Brady Myers, CM went 86 yards for a touchdown, most of the yardage on Sprague completions, including completions of 41 and 20 yards to fellow junior Connor Foltz. Junior Rocco Serafini would then score from four yards out to put the score at 24-6 after an unsuccessful 2-point conversion try early in period two.
Just a moment later the Wildcats had a chance to score again when Serafini intercepted a Brady Jordan pass and returned it to ‘Shore’s 21-yard line. But ‘Shore senior Kooper Peacock had his first of two key second period scores just when Central Mountain looked like it might get back in game. Peacock picked off a Sprague pass and sprinted 95 yards the other way and after the Breck Miller extra point it was 31-6 in favor of the visitors. Later in the period Peacock returned a punt 45 yards for the score and the rout was on.
By halftime the score was 51-6 and the second half was played with the mercy rule in effect.
‘Shore’s swarming defense completely shut down the Wildcat running game. But Sprague was able to complete 7 passes for 112 yards against a ferocious rush but had three passes picked off.
The Bulldogs spread around their offense with a strong rushing night. Quarterback Brady Jordan carried for 109 yards Tate Sechrist added 82, Isaiah Jordan added 58 and Hadyn Packer, who carried the ball sparingly, finished with 33.
