Lady Wildcat soccer edged by Danville

The Lady Wildcats looked to mix things up as they found themselves deep in the attacking third. The Blue and White collected some passes and Elise Cygan, returning for some minutes after being injured early on in the season set up the first goal. Elise played Lily Hendricks into the path of the goal, the junior collected the ball and slotted it past the keeper. This was her first goal this season and put the Lady Wildcats on the scoreboard first. Danville answered with a little over ten minutes left in the first half to tie the game.

With some tactical changes, the Lady Wildcats were caught off guard and the rain added a little help as the visiting side collected two goals within the first few minutes of the second half. The home side collected themselves, maintained some composure and battled back. Lily Hendricks recorded her second of the game as she slid one past the visiting keeper. The Blue and White continued to mount pressure and attack Danville. Samiah Anderson, Morgan Temple, Halle Lodek all had chances to tie the game. The back line consisting of a mixture of players including Traci Thompson, Julia Smith, Sarah Hall, Archie Walker and Taylor Campbell kept the game close and closed down the visiting team’s attack. Kiahana Jones made some big saves on the slick turf. Briley Lewis and Jaz Anderson put in solid shifts and kept the ball in the attacking third as much as possible. The home side just couldn’t equalize.

Coach Ryan Veltri liked what he saw: “This was a great response after an upsetting loss this past weekend. The Lady Wildcat soccer team played with passion and looked like a much-improved side. Tonight’s play may have been the spark needed heading into the second half of the season.”

The Lady ‘Cats were to travel to Montoursville on Wednesday of this week and travel to Milton Saturday for a 2 p.m. contest.

The JV team lost as two goals in the first half were enough to hold onto the win for Danville. The Lady Wildcats tried to put some pressure on the visiting team in the second half but just couldn’t convert or create too many chances. They are continuing to build and develop as they head into the second phase of the season.
