LHU: Men’s soccer falls in road matchup with Mercyhurst

LOCK HAVEN, PA – The Lock Haven University men’s soccer team (0-3) traveled to face Mercyhurst (3-0) in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) East West crossover action, but fell to the home team as the Lakers claimed the victory, 1-0.

The Bald Eagles and the Lakers entered the matchup as defending PSAC regular season champions from their respective divisions.

The first half of the matchup saw the Lakers lead the way, as the home team broke the deadlock with a penalty kick in the 10th minute to grab an early 1-0 lead.

LHU’s lone shot on goal came from Connor Swope (Dillsburg, Pa./Northern York) in the first half.

In the final 45 minutes, both sides locked down defensively and held each other scoreless as the two teams managed just six shots in the second half.

Lock Haven’s backline held strong not allowing a goal from open play as Connor Burke (Schnecksville, Pa./Parkland), Gabe Leach (Wellsboro, Pa./Bethany College) and Jamison Bohner (Selinsgrove, Pa./Selinsgrove) all played the entire game.

In goal, Aitor Ruiz de Eguilaz (Euskadi, Spain/Koldo Mitxelena (Robert Morris)) made five saves and was beaten only once from the penalty spot.

Up Next: 

Lock Haven will return home to face D’Youville in non-conference action on Saturday, September 3 with kick off set for 2:30 p.m.
