Memorial Day programs announced
LOCK HAVEN, PA – As Memorial Day approaches, local veterans’ groups have posted details on events planned to honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice in United States’ wars.
What’s believed to be the oldest of these special remembrances will see a change in direction this year. The more than a century old Beech Creek/Blanchard Memorial Day parade will start in Blanchard and end in Beech Creek.
Parade official Bill Bechdel said organizers decided to revamp the parade route; it will form near the Liberty Baptist Cemetery in Blanchard and move into Beech Creek, ending at the Beech Creek American Legion on Wynn Avenue.
Bechdel said the change was made to accommodate participating bands; they will end their march at the Legion where they are provided hot dogs and beverages. He said this will save time for parade participants who will then travel to Loganton for that community’s parade on Memorial Day afternoon.
The Beech Creek/Blanchard event will form at 9 a.m. on Memorial Day and kickoff at 10 a.m.
