Lady Wildcats claim Heartland title with win over Milton; D-6 title game set for 5/25
BALD EAGLE TOWNSHIP, PA – With an 11-2 Thursday victory over the visiting Milton Panthers, the Central Mountain softball team improved its record to 17-2 overall and 15-1 in the Heartland Conference. The win clinched the conference title for the Lady Wildcats.
The Lady Cat’s put up 13 hits, led by Madisyn Wian and Kelsey Burrows who each had 3 hits on the evening. Sophie Mitchell added 2 hits including her 7th home run of the year. Audrey Walker also had 2 while Caitlyn Watson, Harley Kunes and Madison Hardy added 1 each.
The defense was solid, turning 2 double plays and going error free.
Allison Lininger pitched the complete 7 innings and faced 22 batters. She allowed 3 hits with 13 strike outs and 2 walks.
Central Mountain is to finish its regular season Friday with a home make-up contest with Midd-West (6-9).
Coach Fred Caldwell’s team has earned the number one seed for the District 6 Class 5A tourney and will play for the title on Wednesday, May 25 at 5 p.m. at St. Francis University of Loretto. The opponent will be the winner of the Hollidaysburg at Bellefonte game which was being played on Thursday at Bellefonte.
