Beech Creek American Legion commits $100,000 to Veterans Park in Lock Haven
BEECH CREEK, PA – Bitner Bechdel Post 623 American Legion has pledged $100,000 towards the major upgrade of the Veterans Park across from the Clinton County Courthouse in Lock Haven.
The Beech Creek American Legion post voted and approved Monday night the $100,000 for the extensive improvements planned for the park on Water Street in Lock Haven. Legion President Pat Gensib and Treasurer Bill Bechdel presented the first $20,000 installment at the Monday meeting. $20,000 will follow in each of the next four years towards the Legion’s pledge.
Dave Harger from project developer Harger Utility Charities thanked the Legion for its commitment and said, “It brought a tear or two to my eyes.”
Meanwhile Harger reported the project committee will be meeting with a foundry and an artist in Gettysburg on Nov. 10 as park development continues. It is hoped for a groundbreaking next spring.
The plans were unveiled during Lock Haven’s Hometown Heroes celebration in late August. Harger said at the time fundraising will continue for the revamped park; donations can be given to Harger Utility Charities, with a note “for Veterans Park.” At that point some $70,000 had been committed.
