LOCK HAVEN, PA – Triangle Park at Main Street and Bellefonte Avenue will be the focal point Saturday as the local community and the United States mark the 20th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on the United States.

There will be two longstanding events at the park: the Clinton County Veterans Affairs office, in conjunction with VETS Plus, will be holding its 9/11 Moving Tribute and the Rotary Club of Downtown Lock Haven will be placing Angel Light luminaries.

The Moving Tribute begins at 5:45 a.m. Saturday as the Lock Haven University ROTC unit will start the annual run carrying American flags. Throughout the day runners, walkers and cyclists will keep the flags moving throughout the community in remembrance of 9/11.

Clinton County Veterans Affairs Director Jennifer Hagaman said people of all ages are welcome to participate. Those joining in may pre-register as the moving tribute continues through 8:30 p.m. A final leg for the event will be from 8 to 8:30 p.m. and all are invited to walk, run or cycle in their remembrance. Hagaman said participants may bring their own flags, although that is not a requirement to join the tribute. She said there will also be special 9/11 commemorative flags bearing the names of the 9/11 victims.

The Rotary event will see the placement and lighting of the luminaries throughout Triangle Park, what the Downtown Club described as “the lights shine together as a display of respect for patriots, heroes, teachers, mentors, friends, relatives, anyone who needs their spirit’s lifted.”

Many of the luminaries are personalized to honor loved ones, to remember someone who passed away, or say thank you in a unique way to recognize September 11.

Each Angel Light is a votive candle weighted inside a blank, white bag. Club members will watch over them until the candles begin to burn out and are extinguished. Additional information on the Angel Lights may be obtained by email at dlhrotary@gmail.com or on the Facebook page of Rotary Club of Downtown Lock Haven.
