Natural gas pipeline goes under Young Woman’s Creek
LITTLE ITALEE, PA – So far everything is on schedule as a crew of pipe-liners installs a new natural gas pipeline beneath Young Woman’s Creek in Chapman Township. The work is part of the Leidy South Project, a proposed expansion by energy giant Williams designed to connect Pennsylvania natural gas supplies with demand centers along the Atlantic coast in time for the upcoming winter heating season.
Wednesday saw the placement of the pipe under the stream. Dams and pumps had been placed around the work to minimize any impact on the creek. While the stream work was carried out, excavators were putting down more pipe on a nearby hill.
The project basically follows the same corridor as the Transco system. Transco is described as the country’s largest-volume interstate natural gas pipeline system, a 10,000 mile pipeline network; its mainline runs from Texas to New York City.
The ongoing Leidy South work has brought an estimated 65 pipe-liners into the western Clinton County area, filling local hotels and eating places. It has also brought heavy truck and equipment traffic to Renovo area roadways, particularly from the Route 120/Summerson Mountain/Gleasonton area all the way to Tamarack along the Clinton/Potter counties line.
Expected completion date is this December.
