Bellefonte Community Band next up for Lock Haven’s summer concert series
LOCK HAVEN, PA – The Bellefonte Community Band will be performing this Friday, July 9, on the Grove Street Stage beginning at 6:30 p.m. The Grove Street Stage is a part of the Downtown Pedestrian Mall, and is located at the intersection of Grove and Main Streets.
The Bellefonte Community Band has been a staple in the region since 1984. They are a volunteer group consisting of dedicated musicians of all ages from the surrounding Bellefonte and State College communities. Their purpose is to share their love of music, and have fun while doing so.
The group’s director is Meg Smith, who began directing the Bellefonte Community Band in the fall of 2018. She is a graduate of the Pennsylvania State University, with degrees in Music Education and Musicology. For eight years prior to her return to Central PA, Meg served as a musician in the United States Navy Music Program, performing on clarinet and saxophone at duty stations in Virginia, Rhode Island, and Italy. Meg is currently Director of Bands at Lock Haven University, and continues to serve as a Reservist in the Navy Reserve, while she studies conducting at Penn State with Professor Dennis Glocke.
The Bellefonte Community Band plays a variety of music from traditional (“Stars and Stripes Forever”) to modern (selections from “Frozen” and “Pirates of the Caribbean”). So, whether you are playing in the band or a member of our audience, there is something for everyone!
The band performs in about 15 concerts a year, in venues as diverse as the Central Pennsylvania Festival of the Arts, South Hills School of Business, Bellefonte Arts and Crafts Fair, Centre Crest, Talleyrand Park, and many more.
The group is always looking for new members. Anyone may join by simply attending practices from 7:30 to 9 p.m. Tuesdays from February to May and September to December at Bellefonte Area Middle School. If you’d like to join, please contact them at bellefonteband@gmail.com. For more information about the band, visit their website at www.bellefonteband.net.
