Bucks Take Next Step
by Jim Morgan
FARWELL – Senior Night at Bucktail football was held Tuesday during halftime festivities as the Bucks Hosted Nativity BVM. The Bucks fell to the Green Wave 46-30, but not before the hosts made some noise of their own.
Senior Night! What does that mean to a player and parent? As a player, Could be your last performance in front of the home crowd. Play one of your best games ever in your years as a Buck football player. Being one of those games that you can talk about at your class reunions. Knowing that you let it all out on the field for the last time in a Bucktail uniform. For a parent it’s simple, just two words “Nerve Racking”!! You can only pray that your son plays hard and makes good choices. But most of all about a parent, they are very proud to walk their son across that football field at halftime with that Bucktail football jersey.
The game started out with fireworks on Senior night as Nativity BVM faked the sparks out of the Bucks game to win 46-30. Senior Aaron Ransdorf will remember this game as he took the opening kick-off 85 yards for the touchdown as Junior Anthony Intallura converted the 2 pt. conversion. BVM would answer right back on the second play from scrimmage. BVM QB keeper up the middle for a 52 yard touchdown, 2pt was good 8-8 at the 10:32 mark.
Bucktail’s next possession seen Ransdorf punting on fourth down. BVM kick returner fumbled the ball after letting it bounce once. Senior Brandon Payne recovered the fumble in a hurry on the BVM 22 yardline. Ransdorf ran it into the endzone from four yards out, 2 pt conversion was good from Intallura (16-8) Bucks. BVM would answer again on the second play with a 55 yard pass and run for a touchdown, 2 pt conversion good (16-16) with 4:59 left in the first quarter.
Bucktail started on its own 24 yardline. With a nice drive being put together, it was fourth down on the BVM 20 yardline. With a fake double reverse, Anthony Intallura threw to Mitch Intallura for a touchdown, 2 pt conversion was good by Ransdorf (24-16) Bucks as the first quarter ended.
In the second Quarter, both teams would turn the ball over off of fumbles. On BVM’s first possession of the quarter, Mitch Intallura would intercept a pass on the Bucks 18 yardline. Bucktail would return the favor by fumbling on the next play as BVM recovered the fumble. This setting up a 7 yard touchtown, 2pt conversion was good (24-24). Bucktail was trying to run the clock out as Bucktail had no timeouts left. The Bucks got stopped on a fourth down play deep in BVM terroitory. BVM threw a couple of pass plays and ran it into the endzone from 25 yards out to start the halftime show (30-24).
Seniors recognized at half time were Football: Aaron Ransdorf, William Hopkins, Jonathan Probst, Brandon Payne and Blake Gavlock. Cheerleading: Tiffani Duffield, Brooke Probst and Tiffany Werts, Tennis: Abby Ransom, Alaina Tripp and Maria Morgan, Band: Cynthia Moore. Congrats to all of you on Senior Night.
BVM received the second half kick-off and marched it right down for a score, then score again with 2:00 mark making 46-24. Bucktail would score one more time in the fourth quarter as the final score was 46-30 BVM. The Bucks will get a chance to redemin themselves against BVM in October as they will square off again at Pottsville.
For the Seniors that played the game, you have good reason to hold your heads up high tonight. The entire Bucktail team can hold their heads up high tonight. Putting up 30 points tonight, that is a point in the right direction. For only having one practice and walk through before tonight’s game, you can all be proud. My unoffical count on Ransdorf, I had him over a hundred yards rushing.
The Bucks are off this weekend and will not return to action until Saturday October 4th as they travel to Canton for an afternoon game starting at 1:30 p.m.
Be sure to view the video report for highlights from the game, senior night and comments from Coach Bruce Ransom.
