Muncy deals Lady Bucks first loss, 5-2

MUNCY, PA – Bucktail softball coach Mike Poorman knew going in that the Lady Buck Thursday trip to Muncy would be a challenge. That turned out to be the case as the host Lady Indians broke a scoreless tie in the bottom of the fourth, scoring four runs and going on to post a 5-2 win. For Bucktail, it was the team’s first regular season loss since mid-May of 2019 when Cowanesque Valley picked up the win.

The Lady Bucks ran into a tremendous pitching effort from Muncy freshman Nolah Moyer; she tossed a complete game 2-hitter against a Bucktail team which had been averaging in double-figures going into the contest. Moyer struck out 17 and walked 3. The Bucktail hits came in the top of the sixth when the Lady Bucks rallied for two runs. Makenzie Wagner singled and Emma Poorman followed with a single, driving in both Bucktail runs, Wagner and Haley Burrows who had drawn a walk.

Poorman and Wagner shared the pitching duties, Poorman the first 4.1 innings, Wagner finishing up. Muncy scored five runs in all, but four of them were unearned. Poorman had 9 strikeouts and surrendered 2 walks, while Wagner struck out two and walked two.

The Lady Bucks, now 4-1, will be back in action at their home field in Farwell on Saturday, Benton (0-4) the opponent, game time 1 p.m.
