More than 200 challenged in Eagleton Trail Challenge
LOCK HAVEN, PA – Saturday was a great day for the staging of the Eagleton Trail Challenge, the most recent of multiple trail races unique to Clinton County.
The race saw perfect weather with overcast skies and temperatures in the low sixties. More than 200 people competed in three different courses along the Eagleton Mine Camp Trail in Sproul State Forest. There was a 10K,
25K and a 50K course, plus a Ruck competition where about a dozen people ran the 25K course with a weighted pack.
The winner of the Ruck, Mike Summers, said he trained for about four months for this challenge, running about 15 miles every weekend. And, although the competition required him to run with a 20-pound weighted pack, he trained with a 30-pound pack to compensate for the hills he knew he’d encounter here. Also of note on the Ruck, Erin Kennedy of Lock Haven placed eighth, finishing the challenge in six hours, seven minutes.
Participants came from Pennsylvania and eight other states. The event started and ended at the Sons of Italy Picnic Grounds just off the Renovo Road. Race director was Blake Cohen of Lock Haven.
Next up on the schedule for trail races within Clinton County is the 14th annual Hyner View Trail Challenge, scheduled for Saturday, April 24.
