More Cases Reported at Susque-View; Vaccine Coming

LOCK HAVEN, PA – A combined six staff members and residents have tested positive for COVID-19 in the past week, the latest report from the Susque-View Home. The weekly update said that the first dose of the COVID vaccine will be administered to residents and staff on Jan. 8.

The update was released on Friday:

SUSQUE-VIEW HOME COVID-19 UPDATE

Based on the positive cases in the facility and Clinton County’s positivity rate, CDC and Department of Health testing frequency guidelines recommend testing employees twice a week and residents once per week. The results of last week’s testing and the first test of this week identified four more employees and two more residents, all asymptomatic who tested positive for COVID-19. That brings our total cases to date to 6 residents and 19 staff members. Several of the staff members who are past their quarantine period and are asymptomatic have returned to work. The positive residents have been moved to a ‘red zone’ and the nursing unit they’ve come from is a ‘yellow zone’ for at least 14 days. All staff on the yellow or red zones are wearing the recommended PPE, including N95 respirator masks. In addition to continuing to test residents weekly, any resident who is symptomatic is tested immediately with a rapid test in the facility with a follow up test through a laboratory. Any symptomatic employees are put off work and advised to consult their physician for follow up testing if warranted.

Susque-View’s Administrator, Jamie Aurand said, “I don’t want to wish my life away, but I’m ready to put 2020 behind us. Special thanks to all of the staff who continued their dedication to the residents during a very difficult time. While this pandemic is not over, I think we are soon going to be able to see the light at the end of the tunnel. I’m pleased to announce that CVS Pharmacy will be administering the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine to our residents and staff on Friday, January 8.”
