Smith Furniture Finds a Home

Smith Furniture has begun readying a new location in the Calico Creek building. Assisting owners Jim and Deb Smith, left, with the move were Central Mountain wrestler Griffin Walizer and his father/coach Biff Walizer.

MILL HALL, Pa – Smith Furniture has found at the very least a temporary home and hopes to be re-opened to the public sometime in January. The longtime Dunnstown business got shut down in the early morning hours of Dec. 17 when a mammoth snow storm caused the roof of the business showroom to give way.

Owner Jim Smith has located new quarters, a large vacant area in the Calico Creek building along Eagle Valley Road in Mill Hall. Smith thanked Calico Creek owners Nancy and Ernie Renninger for working with him to immediately relocate to space in their structure.

Smith said the new location will be modified for a showroom in the front and a warehouse area in the back. He said it will actually provide more square footage than the Dunnstown location.

Smith was busy at the new site on Wednesday as Central Mountain wrestling coach Biff Walizer and a number of team members helped Smith’s staff relocate furniture from Dunnstown to the Calico Creek building. He said conversion to a furniture showroom at the new site will begin immediately and he hopes to be back in operation by mid-to-late January.

The company has been operating for 80 years at its Woodward Township site. Smith said it is too soon in the process to say how he will proceed relative to that location.
