49ers’ Gould Hits another Milestone
SAN FRANCISCO – Lock Haven native Robbie Gould on Sunday hit another milestone in his record-breaking 16-year NFL career.
Gould was a perfect two-for-two in field goals as his San Francisco team lost to Dallas by a 41-33 score. The second of his two fields (one from 41 yards, one from 31) marked the 400th of his career. He currently stands in eleventh place in the all-time NFL field goal list.
Gould’s early mentor at New England, Adam Vinatieri, is atop the list with 599 field goals. NFL Hall of Famer Morten Anderson is second at 565. Just ahead of Gould are two retired kickers in a ninth place tie: Jason Elam and Sebastian Janikowski, both with 436. Just behind him is still active Matt Bryant with 397.
The former Penn State kicker is enjoying a bounce-back with the 49ers. He is 19-for-21 in field goals, his only misses beyond 50 yards; he is 2-for-4 in 50-yard-plus tries. A year ago Gould was 23-for-31. For his career, Gould is 400 of 460, good for a success rate of 86.96 percent.
Based on his 2020 season to date, the now 38-year-old shows no signs of slowing down. He has been with San Francisco since 2017. He was with the Chicago Bears from 2005 through 2015 and spent 2016 with the New York Giants.
After embarking on his NFL career, Gould established his Goulden Touch Foundation and has contributed hundreds of thousands of dollars to various causes, including many in Clinton County, most recently the Chestnut Grove recreation area under development in Castanea Township.
