Heritage Park Launches “Renovo Through Time” Podcast
RENOVO, PA – The Greater Renovo Area Heritage Park recently launched “Renovo Through Time,” a podcast about the history and heritage of Renovo, Pennsylvania. On November 29, 2020, Episode 1 – “Time Before Renovo” went live on Buzzsprout.com, officially beginning a monthly series of stories, interviews, readings, and occasional musical ballads about the people and events that shaped the heritage of the Renovo area and the region. The podcast is located at http://renovothroughtime.buzzsprout.com and can also be followed on 13 podcast channels including Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Deezer, and Podcast Addict, to name a few.
This project was funded by a Clinton County Tourism and Recreation grant. Guiding the design of two types of podcast projects is a focus on supporting the growth of heritage tourism in Clinton County. The grant made it possible to purchase the key pieces of equipment needed to record and produce quality tracks and clips for two types of podcasts – audio and video. Additional equipment for setting up a portable recording kit and training lab (nine IBM Laptops) was donated by Ken Rhone. This aspect of the project is on hold until it is safe to resume meeting publicly.
Involved in developing the podcast were Dave Barrows, Wayne Short, Charlie Barnum, Terry O’Laughlin, Mary George Rhone, Amy Strong, Lou Bernard, Martha Sykes and Rich Wykoff. The first episode is an introduction to the podcast and the early days of Renovo’s development. It includes readings from J. Milton Furey’s writings about Renovo by Martha Sykes and Lou Bernard’s presentation about Young Woman’s Creek’s“Swamp Angel.” This episode is sponsored by Endless Mountain Getaway, owned by Tracy Bruno.
In episode 2, Martha will share Miss Margaret Baird’s account of the Baird family’s experience as Renovo’s earliest settlers. Lou is going to tell about a monster that plagued settlers on Keating Mountain. Charlie Barnum will join the show to begin a series of short talks about Renovo and the “Shops.”
Programming limitations brought on by COVID-19 have created the necessity of finding creative solutions for connecting with each other, members, and the community. This project came together using several online resources. Google Suite was especially useful. With this success in hand, Heritage Park is exploring other options for virtual projects. Virtual tours of Renovo and of the CCC camps in Clinton County are currently in development. The Greater Renovo Area Heritage Park was established for the purpose of uniting, preserving, and promoting the history, heritage, culture, and community pride of the Greater Renovo Area; to build a heritage park center to become the focal point of the area’s ethnic, industrial, and commercial past; to help develop the local economy by supporting new business and nonprofit endeavors inspired by the heritage of the Renovo Area; and to illustrate how the area’s past ties to the present.
