Fulmer’s Personal Care Home Dealing with COVID-19 Cases

DUNNSTOWN, PA – Fulmer’s Personal Care Home in Dunnstown is dealing with “multiple residents and staff” who tested positive for COVID-19.

The home’s Jeff Fulmer told therecord-online Monday that the assisted living facility has been in “close contact” with residents’ family members, local and state agencies and working with local physicians who are monitoring the health of residents. The facility, located at 201 Woodward Avenue, has 76 residents, along with a staff of 33; the specific number of those affected was not provided.

He did issue this statement:

Over the past 9 months we have been very vigilant with our efforts to keep COVID-19 out of our facility. I’m very proud of our staff. We have been following guidance from our governing state agencies and following CDC recommendations. Random testing was being completed on both residents and staff, which resulted in our first positive case. A mass testing of all staff and residents was completed. Once results were obtained multiple residents and staff had tested positive. The facility has been keeping in close contact with affected residents’ families, local and state agencies, and working with local physicians who are monitoring the health of our residents. The silver-lining to having positive cases in the home, is that many of the residents who tested positive are asymptomatic or have very mild symptoms, and have recovered beautifully. For this, we are very grateful. As we all know, positive cases are skyrocketing throughout our country. Our local area is absolutely polluted with COVID-19, consequently it has become almost impossible to keep it out of our facility.

Various visiting restrictions have been in place since March 2020, Fulmer said.
