New Unemployment Claims Inching Up in Clinton County
HARRISBURG, PA – Initial unemployment insurance claims by Clinton County workers continued to inch up during the last part of November, while the number of continued claims decreased, according to information released Friday by the state Department of Labor and Industry.
For the week ending Nov. 28, there were 121 initial claims, up from 101 the week before. Of the new claims, 27% were in the construction field, and 74% of them were male. This is the highest initial claim number in the county in a few months, and some of the claims are likely “seasonal” workers.
Continued claims were 766 for the last full week in November, down slightly from the 799 registered the week before. The recent numbers include 16.7% who are in the construction field, and 55% who are male.
October’s county unemployment rate was 6.9%, the sixth straight month that the rate declined following the beginning of the pandemic. The November county unemployment information should be released near the end of December.
