Corman, Borowicz Announce $377,636 in Water, Sewer Grants for Centre County

HARRISBURG – Senate Majority Leader Jake Corman (R-34) and state Rep. Stephanie Borowicz (R-76) announced three Small Water and Sewer Grants awards directed to ongoing projects in Centre County.

“This much-needed funding will protect local residents from massive rate increases while ensuring that vital water and sewer improvements are able to move forward,” Senator Corman said. “I was happy to help bring these tax dollars back to our community. This support is essential to making certain that important public improvements are made.”

“I am pleased that so many District 76 citizens stand to benefit from this funding,” said Borowicz. “Working together with our community leaders to bring home these highly competitive grants is extremely important in properly maintaining our current infrastructure and reducing any future maintenance or replacement costs that would otherwise have to be covered by local residents. Without question, these upgrades are absolutely critical to improving our region’s overall health and quality of life.”

The grant awards are as follows:

• $200,000 for Boggs Township to rehabilitate the stormwater system located along Second Avenue including replacing damaged and undersized stormwater pipes and inlets. This project includes $68,000 already committed by Boggs Township.
• $100,000 for Liberty Township to improve the existing sanitary system that flows into the existing Bald Eagle State Park wastewater treatment plant by rehabilitating the sewer main and pump station no. 2. This project also includes $75,000 already committed from Liberty Township.
• $77,636 for Mountaintop Regional Sewer Authority to install new equipment that will enhance water production capability during an extended power outage or other emergency event. The project will address concerns cited by the state Department of Environmental Protection. The project includes $13,700 committed from the Authority.

The Small Water and Sewer Grant Program is under the Department of Community and Economic Development with funding made available by the Commonwealth Financing Authority.

The program grants funds to projects of not less than $30,000 and not more than $500,000 that assist with the construction, improvement, expansion, or rehabilitation or repair of a water supply system, sanitary sewer system, storm sewer system, or flood control projects.
