Unemployment Pictures Shows Further Clinton County Improvement
LOCK HAVEN – Continued unemployment claims in Clinton County dropped almost 300 people during the week ending July 4.
According to information released by the state Department of Labor and Industry, Clinton County had 1,396 continued unemployment claims as of July, down from the 1,693 registered a week earlier. Regarding the July 4 numbers, 51 percent were female and 18 percent were in the accommodation and food service sector.
Initial claims also dropped slightly. There were 64 new claims for the week of July 4, with 39 percent in the manufacturing field and 67percent were males.
During the pandemic, Clinton County hit a high of 3,211 continued claims during the week ending May 2. The highest initial claim week came April 4 with 1,049 filing for the first time.
Clinton County’s May unemployment reading was 11.7percent, with an estimated 2,100 unemployed. One year ago, the rate was 5.2% with 900 people seeking work. The state will release the monthly data for June 2020 later this month.
