Borowicz Joins Call for Governor’s Impeachment
HARRISBURG – State Rep. Stephanie Borowicz (R-Clinton/Centre) is among 24 House Republicans who have announced support for a measure calling for the impeachment of Gov.Tom Wolf. She joined right-wing firebrand Rep. Daryl Metcalfe (R-Butler) in his call for the governor’s ouster.
Borowicz had first announced her support last month, posting on social media, “I am proud to be in the fight against tyranny and stand up for our Constitutional rights by being the first co-sponsor on a resolution to impeach Gov. Tom Wolf.”
Others joining Metcalfe are state Rep. Cris Dush (R-66) from Jefferson County and Garth Everett (R-84) from Lycoming County. Dush is a Republican candidate for the state Senate from the 25th district, seeking to replace Sen. Joe Scarnati who is retiring at the end of this year.
Metcalfe released his impeachment plans in a statement on Tuesday: “While these are certainly unprecedented and chaotic times, Gov. Tom Wolf must be held accountable for his actions that have harmed so many of our citizens and violated so many of our rights,” Metcalfe said in a statement released Tuesday. “Wolf’s unconstitutional dictates and Orwellian overreach into our lives and the marketplace has caused immeasurable harm and hardship for far more Pennsylvanians than the virus!”
This is Metcalfe’s third try at impeachment. He made two unsuccessful efforts earlier. In 2014 he called for the ouster of then-Attorney General Kathleen Kane, alleging she abused her office for political reprisal (she later resigned after being found guilty of felony perjury). Last year Metcalfe attempted to impeach Pittsburgh Mayor Bill Peduto over that city’s gun control laws. The Butler County Republican was unsuccessful in both efforts.
