Downtown Main Street Pedestrian Walkway Begins
LOCK HAVEN – With the blessing of PennDOT, the City of Lock Haven on Friday instituted its Friday/Saturday closing of E. Main Street from Jay Street to Vesper Street.
The closure, from 9 a.m. Friday to 8 p.m. Saturday, will be observed through September. The city took the action to assist downtown businesses affected by the coronavirus. Several restaurants so far have expanded to provide outdoor dining on the sidewalk and parking stall areas in front of their businesses.
The city’s E. Main Street municipal parking lot has been converted to an outdoor dining area for downtown visitors who purchase their food to take out. Hand-washing stations have also been set up. The city is encouraging downtown visitors to practice social distancing and frequent hand-washing while enjoying “downtown dining and shopping at our businesses downtown.”
Additionally the city placed a temporary stage at the intersection of Main and Grove Streets for musicians and performers to provide entertainment on Fridays and Saturdays. Those interested should contact Kasey Campbell, the city Director of Community Living, at 570-893-5612. That same intersection will be the site for the first Lock Haven summer concert, Friday, June 26. Big Willy, featuring Lock Haven native, Bill Hatalski, will be performing.
