Veterans Bridge Ready for Memorial Day

LOCK HAVEN – Thanks to the efforts of Clinton County Veterans Affairs Director, Jennifer Hagaman, and her husband/Army veteran Bill, the Veterans Bridge linking Lock Haven and Lockport will be adorned with new flags for Memorial Day.

The Hagamans spent Saturday putting up new American flags, along with flags from the five American service branches. The husband/wife team checks the ropes and hooks as part of the project. She said the flags are up from Memorial Day through Veterans Day, then taken down for the winter. She noted the flags can’t survive a winter on the bridge.

Memorial Day services throughout the area will be limited this year due to the coronavirus. The annual ceremony at the Foster Joseph Sayers Dam near Blanchard has been canceled and the annual Beech Creek/Blanchard Memorial Day parade, a century-old tradition, has also been called off.

The county veterans affairs office also maintains the flagpole at Clinton Plaza off E. Walnut St. in Lock Haven. A POW flag is displayed under the American flag there.
