City Weighs Tiger Den Playground Future

LOCK HAVEN – The City of Lock Haven is looking for public comment at its virtual meeting Monday night on the future of the Tiger Den playground at 314 W. Bald Eagle Street.

Council is to vote Monday on a resolution seeking transfer of playground ownership from the Keystone Central School District to the city. The action follows the Keystone Central School District decision earlier this year to close the nearby Dickey Elementary School.

Monday night’s council agenda details how residents may speak to council. Requests may be submitted by email to City Manager Greg Wilson at gwilson@lockhavenpa.gov by 5 p.m. on Monday; this should be done to receive a Zoom meeting invitation to participate by videoconference. The Monday agenda says speakers are limited to three minutes and 20 minutes will be provided for public comments. The city encouraged residents with a shared opinion to designate a spokesperson.

Written comments will also be received at the city manager’s email for forwarded to city council members if received prior to 5 p.m. Monday.

The park/playground had been owned by the city until 2000 when it was transferred to the Keystone Central School District. The playground has historically been available for students at the long-gone Lincoln Elementary School and its successor, Dickey School.

Lock Haven Mayor Joel Long had been part of the community effort to create Tiger Den in 2006. It replaced older, more traditional playground equipment.
