Be the Light: High School Football Scoreboards Honor Class of 2020 and Emergency Personnel
FARWELL – Friday night began a special salute to seniors at Bucktail and Central Mountain High Schools, part of a nationwide recognition for students and also for those involved in the battle against COVID-19.
Keystone Central School District had announced on Thursday it would be honoring the Class of 2020 and supporting the nurses, doctors, and first responders on the front line of COVID-19 by lighting up Dwyer Field in Farwell and Malinak Stadium in Bald Eagle Township at 8:20 p.m. (2020 hours).
Many schools across the country are taking part in the “Be the Light” Campaign to continue into next month. Each Friday at 8:20 p.m. through the end of May, the Bucktail and Central Mountain scoreboards will display the score as 20-20 in honor of this year’s graduating class, while 4th Down and 19 Yards to Go will be displayed as the down and distance signifying COVID-19 is on its final down.
A rare mid-April snowfall made for an almost surreal first night at the empty stadiums. The fields were kept locked and unopened to the public, part of the school district shutdown of facilities. Senior class members and their families were encouraged by the district to recognize the Be the Light campaign at home.
