Piper Memorial Airport among 63 State Recipients in Federal Coronavirus Funding
WASHINTON – U.S. Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao on Tuesday announced that 63 Pennsylvania airports will share in $239.2 million from the recently enacted Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act Airport Grant Program.
Among the recipients is Lock Haven’s William T. Piper Memorial Airport, the amount $30,000. Other mid-state amounts vary widely: Williamsport Regional, $17,952,146; University Park, $2,337,489; Mid-State, Philipsburg, $1,000; and Penn Valley, Selinsgrove, $69,000.
$10 billion is being distributed nationwide. Chao said, “This $10 billion in emergency resources will help fund the continued operations of our nation’s airports during this crisis and save workers’ jobs.” The funds may be used for operating costs, including payroll and utilities, as well as lost income resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic. No local match is required.
