LHU Establishes Emergency Student Fund to Support Students Impacted by COVID-19
LOCK HAVEN, Pa. — Lock Haven University has established the LHU Emergency Student Fund to assist students experiencing housing issues, lost wages, food insecurity, lack of technological and digital resources and other financial hardships stemming from the COVID-19 outbreak.
“The impact of the pandemic on our students’ finances has been profound and it affects their ability to complete their coursework,” said Dr. Robert Pignatello, LHU president. “We are calling upon our extended community to participate in this drive to raise needed funds and help them through this very challenging time.”
On March 28, the LHU Emergency Student Fund was launched to address some of the financial hurdles that students are facing. Within 48 hours, more than $10,000 was raised for Lock Haven University students.
“It’s inspiring to see our alumni, donors and the community step up so quickly and so generously to support our students,” said Joe Fiochetta, vice president of university advancement. “Their support is essential for us to quickly provide much needed aid to our students who need it most.”
Donations to the LHU Emergency Student Fund can be made by visiting www.lhufoundation.org or by calling the LHU Advancement Office at 570-484-2586.
“This is an unprecedented time for all of us,” Pignatello said. “But through all of the abrupt changes and enormous constraints, I’ve seen the heart and soul of our university — our students — handle this crisis with maturity, humanity and responsibility. I am so proud of them and of our entire Haven family that is uniting as one to support them.”
