Springtime Dike/Levee Maintenance

Public Works Department employee Josh Bechdel is part of the city crew tending to maintenance needs on the dike-levee walkway.

LOCK HAVEN – What with the unusually mild spring-like weather, Lock Haven’s 25 year-old flood protection system is getting some early season maintenance.

City public works department employees were out Monday applying milling adjacent to the public walkway which parallels the Susquehanna River from near Lock Haven University to the Piper Memorial Airport in Castanea Township.

A public works spokesman said the walkway improvements are in addition to work an outside contractor will perform this spring, repairing damaged portions of the walkway and seal-coating its length.
