Dilapidated House on Lock Haven’s East Main Street Torn Down
LOCK HAVEN – The owner of a dilapidated structure on E. Main Street, faced with demolition action from city government, on Thursday had the two-story frame building torn down.
The building at 603 E. Main Street had been the subject of discussion at Lock Haven City Council’s meeting Monday night. City officials said at the time that if the owner did not bring the building down by Friday, the city would have Masters Excavating demolish the property and a lien placed on it.
That action won’t be necessary as the building owner, who asked not to be identified, oversaw its demolition on Thursday. He said he plans to erect a new structure on the lot and also refurbish the abutting property at 605/607 E. Main; that building, which he also owns, was left with no exterior wall on its west side after the Thursday demolition. The owner said he buys old properties and refurbishes them.
The city had been in a dialogue with the owner since August of last year about the condition of the property at 603 E. Main Street. The owner recently told city officials the building would be down by Jan. 10. That deadline was met on Jan. 9.
