Bellefonte Avenue Clean-Up Almost Done

LOCK HAVEN – This could be the final week to complete the extended clean-up of the old Town Tavern/Heilig-Meyers holdings on Bellefonte Avenue. The effort has been a multi-year one and the final leg could happen this week as the remnants of the last structure standing at 55 Bellefonte Avenue are due for demolition.

Meanwhile the city is proceeding with plans to sell its Bellefonte Avenue holding and its recently vacated city garage site at 2 E. Walnut St. The city, through its Lock Haven Redevelopment Authority, recently put the two locations on the market and will accept proposals through Nov. 22.

The city redevelopment authority has agreed to issue requests for proposals (RFP) for the two sites, the 2.2 acre Walnut Street location and .63 of an acre on Bellefonte Avenue. According to city manager Greg Wilson, the RFP approach is a step to see if a developer may come forward with a beneficial plan for economic investment in the community which may not have been possible if the property were sold to the highest bidder.
