Lock Haven Looks at Closing North End of Third Avenue
LOCK HAVEN – The City of Lock Haven is looking at closing off the northernmost end of Third Avenue, where it begins at Bellefonte Avenue.
Three owners of the 10 businesses on Second and Third avenues that would be impacted by the possible closing attended last Monday’s city council meeting and expressed their concern, citing what they said would be a negative impact on their businesses.
City manager Greg Wilson said the city is considering vacating the northernmost portion of Third Avenue near Bellefonte Avenue to increase the size of the lot that is home to the future city garage and salt building, and increase space at the Murray Motors dealership for a possible expansion.
City Council is scheduled for a second and final reading of the closure plan at its meeting on May 20 at 7 p.m. City officials indicated there would be additional dialogue on the subject before a final vote takes place.
