Lady Wildcats Go ‘Lights Out’ Against Altoona, 18-0
BALD EAGLE TOWNSHIP – Due to a traffic accident in the vicinity of Central Mountain High School, there was a power outage late this afternoon rendering the CM softball field scoreboard inoperable for their meeting with Altoona. Lucky for the scoreboard as the Lady Wildcat bats were impressive in the early going that may have stressed the board greatly.
The Lady ‘Cats sent their entire lineup to the plate twice in just the first inning accumulating 11 hits and 13 runs in the process. In the second inning it was more of the same for CM as they belted out another 7 hits for 5 more runs to shut out the Lady Mountain Lions 18-0 in just three innings of play ending the game under the 15 run mercy rule.
Alyssa Fisher and Moragn Wetzel led the effort in the batter’s box both going 3-for-3 on the day. Fisher had a double, 2 triples for 3 RBI while Wetzel had a trio of base hits for 3 RBI.
Caitlyn Watson and Riley House had a double and a single each with Houser collecting 4 RBI and Watson 2 RBI. Madi Knepp, Alexa Shultz had 2 singles each with Shultz picking up 4 RBI. Jenni Skow, Bailee Renninger (RBI) and Jessica Carlson (RBI) all had a single to their credit.
Madi Kneep had the start in the circle for Central Mountain allowing just 2 hits and 1 walk in 2 innings of work. Madalyn Bechdel finished out the last 3 outs of the game giving up 1 walk and striking out one Altoona batter.
Jenni Skow collected the final 2 outs at first base of the game when she snagged a line out of the air, tagging the base runner for an unassisted double play.
The win takes Central Mountain to 5-6 on the season.
The Lady ‘Cats will next see action when they host their Thunder on the Mountain tournament on Saturday, April 27 where they will first face Philipsburg-Osceola, in a 9:30 a.m. game with Dubois vs. Hempfield game to follow at 11:45 a.m.
